The 2012–13 Liga MX season was the 66th professional season of the top-flight football league in Mexico, and the first under the league's current identity as "Liga MX". The season was split into two championships—the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura—each in an identical format and each contested by the same eighteen teams.
Clubs
Following is the list of the eighteen teams participating this season. Estudiantes Tecos was relegated to the Liga de Ascenso after accumulating the lowest coefficient over the past three seasons, ending its 36-year stay in the league. They were replaced by León, the winner of the 2011–12 Liga de Ascenso season. This was León's first season in the Mexican top flight after 10 years from being last relegated.
