- The snail species Echiniscus clavispinosus discovered on the island of Santo Antão
- 10 January: The new ferry boat, the Kriola connected the ports of São Filipe in Fogo and Praia in Santiago,[1] it is slightly faster than the previous ferry boat once used for fishing and only served Fogo
- January 25: Ildo August dos Santos Lopes Fortes became the second bishop of Mindelo
- February 6 - 2011 parliamentary elections took place
- March 11 - The 5th José Maria Neves government began
- April 23: Another forest fire but smaller than the last burnt Monte Velha Forest Perimeter.[2]
- May: The runway of São Filipe Airport was extended to 1,500 meters by 30 meters wide from the previous length of 1,197 meters by 20 meters wide
