During the Padres 6-5 win over the New York Mets at Citi Field on April 13, 2009, Jody Gerut became the first player to open a new ballpark with a leadoff home run, hitting the first base hit and home run on the 3rd pitch off Mets starting pitcher Mike Pelfrey.[1]
