The 1989 Kishinev October Revolution Parade was a parade on Victory Square in Kishinev in the Moldavian SSR on November 7, 1989 in honor of the 72nd anniversary of the Russian Revolution.[1] For the first time, the parade saw resistance in the Moldovan capital.[2] It would be the last parade on Victory Square during the Soviet era. Inspecting the parade was the commander of thee troops of the Odessa Military District Colonel General Ivan S Morozov.[3] Anti-communist protesters broke a gate of 1,000 security officers guarding the parade in order to block tanks to reach the square.[4] As a result, the people in charge of the parade ordered the cancellation of the mobile portion of the parade.[4] After the parade, the leadership of the MSSR which included Semion Grossu, and Ivan Calin, left the square during the demonstrations after the parade due to concerns over the violent clashes betweens protesters and police.[5]
