The 1986–87 Iraqi National League was the 13th season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Al-Rasheed won their first ever league title, and won the 1986–87 Iraq FA Cup to complete the double. The league was played in a quadruple round-robin format for the only time in history. Al-Rasheed's record for the season was 44 matches, 24 wins, 14 draws, 6 losses, 65 goals scored, 29 goals conceded, +36 goal difference and 62 points.
