The 1982 Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Tournament was held from March 5–6 1982 at the Kibbie Dome at the University of Idaho in Moscow, Idaho.[1]
Top-seeded Idaho defeated Nevada in the championship game, 85–80, to clinch their second consecutive (and second overall) Big Sky men's basketball tournament. Idaho was ranked #6 in the national AP poll at the time of the tournament.
The Vandals, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1982 NCAA Tournament, where they defeated Iowa in the Second Round before falling to Oregon State in the Sweet Sixteen.
Format
Even though the Big Sky's membership was fixed at eight, only the top four teams from the standings took part in the tournament field with teams again being seeded based on regular-season records. Additionally, the tournament was again held at the home court of the conference's regular season champion.
Nevada–Reno made their first Big Sky tournament appearance after joining the conference in 1980.
