The 1976–77 Iraqi National League was the 3rd season of the competition since its foundation in 1974. Due to scheduling difficulties, the season had to be cut short after 17 rounds. The Iraq Football Association decided to discount all the matches from the second half of the league, to create a league table for the first half of the season only, which was 11 games in total, and thus crowned Al-Zawraa the champions for their second consecutive league title. This was the same situation as the 1972–73 Iraq FA First Division when the IFA used the same method to name a champion for that particular season.

Al-Zawraa lost one of their games in the second half of the season 3–2 against Al-Baladiyat, but because the second half of the season was annulled, Al-Zawraa finished the season without a single loss. Their record was 11 matches, 9 wins, 2 draws, 0 losses, 24 goals scored, 8 goals conceded, +16 goal difference and 20 points.
