The 1965–66 Iraq FA Premier League was the 11th season of what is now known as the League of the Institutes (the top division of Iraqi football from 1948 to 1974), and the first under the name of Premier League; it was open to teams from Baghdad. It kicked off on 15 October 1965 and ended on 2 June 1966. This was the first season in the history of Iraqi football that featured a double round-robin format where each team played all the other teams in the league twice, once home and once away. Al-Firqa Al-Thalatha won their first league title, which was also the first title in the history of the Army clubs that were merged to form Al-Jaish in 1974. Al-Firqa Al-Thalatha also beat runners-up Al-Quwa Al-Jawiya 1–0 in the one-match Al-Muthabara Cup.[1]
