- Last refueling of coal to a ship done on the island of São Vicente, the remainder was done by diesel
- The Portuguese colonial administration proposed settling fifteen thousand people from Cape Verde to the island of São Tomé in São Tomé and Príncipe, at the time, another Portuguese colony, an attempt to seize that land from the forros,[1][2] some of the people emigrated from Brava
- February 25: A total solar eclipse took place, it showed from 45-60% obscuration of the sun in Cape Verde and started at sunrise.[3]
- August 5: A Partial lunar eclipse took place and was mainly visible, it was in progress at sunset and finished at around 21:00[4]
