The 1930 British Empire Games (French: Jeux de l'Empire britannique de 1930) were the first of what later become known as the Commonwealth Games, and were held in Hamilton, in the province of Ontario in Canada from August 16–23, 1930.[1]

The events included athletics, boxing, lawn bowls, rowing, swimming, and wrestling. The opening ceremonies and many events were held at the Civic stadium (later renamed Ivor Wynne Stadium) in east Hamilton.[2]

The games were opened by the Governor General of Canada, Lord Willingdon on the 16 August.
