.հայ (Armenian: Հայ, tr. hay, hye) is a new Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Armenia,[1] designated for two-letter country code AM,[2] intended for domain names in the Armenian language. As of 2016, it is active.
Information
The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) made a decision on November 20, 2014[3] to register the .հայ domain name. The registration will allow users to disseminate information on the web using the .հայ domain in the Armenian alphabet. The Armenian-language domain will promote the use of the Armenian keyboard abroad, the implementation of Armenian fonts in modern mobile devices and will allow to develop the level of knowledge of Armenian on the Internet.[3]
A report published by the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) which works with the US government and ICANN stated that, "as the current operator of .AM ccTLD, the application has provided satisfactory details on the technical and operational infrastructure and expertise that will be used to operate the .հայ domain."[4][5]
The domain's punycode encoding is .xn--y9a3aq.[6]
