Znamensky District (Russian: ЗнамСнский райо́н) is an administrative[1] and municipal[3] district (raion), one of the twenty-three in Tambov Oblast, Russia. It is located in the southwestern central part of the oblast. The area of the district is 1,060 square kilometers (410 sq mi). Its administrative center is the urban locality (a work settlement) of Znamenka.[1] Population: 18,405 (2010 Census);[4] 20,590 (2002 Census);[7] 23,045 (1989 Census).[8] The population of Znamenka accounts for 33.5% of the district's total population.[4]
