Childhood

Born January 1, 1952 at Saudi Sharif in Swat, she was sent to a Catholic boarding school in Murree, northeast of Islamabad.[2]

She is the grand-daughter of Miangul Jahan Zeb, the last royal ruler of Swat.[2]

At 25, she married Arshad Jilani, the son of Major General Mian Ghulam Jilani.

The family settled in New Jersey, USA.[3] She got a degree in Nutrition in 2005.[2]

Work

When the massive human displacement from Swat took place in the first half of 1, following a large scale military confrontation between the Pakistani military and the Taliban, Jilani founded the Swat Relief Initiative to assist the Swazi population in refugee camps. She went to Pakistan in March 2009 to help the internally displaced persons.[1]
