Yumbles is an online e-commerce marketplace focused on indie food and drink. Independent food makers apply to sell on Yumbles and Yumbles’ curation team accepts or rejects the application based on a number of criteria, including taste and quality tests.[1] Currently there are over 100 indie food and drink makers selling their products on Yumbles.[2]
History
The company was founded by Simos Kitiris and Katie Kitiri in late 2013. Simos previously co-founded PeoplePerHour, and Katie worked for the e-commerce giant eBay and local classifieds site Gumtree.[3]
Reception
In August 2014, The Wild Peanut founder Akeem Ojuko, launched his products on Yumbles after his appearance on the British television series Dragons' Den.[4] In 2014, Yumbles supported FoodCycle, in their 5th anniversary campaign by donating the cost of a meal to FoodCycle with every purchase. FoodCycle is a UK charity that combines volunteers, surplus food donated by supermarkets and spare kitchen spaces to create tasty, nutritious meals for people at risk of food poverty and social isolation.[5] In September 2014, Yumbles has been chosen as their favourite pick by TV Celebrity Kirstie Allsop[6] and in November 2014 Yumbles won the title of Food & Drink Website of the Year at the Good Web Guide Awards.
