Yandamoori Veerendranath (Telugu: యండమూరి వీరేంద్రనాథ్), (b. 14 November 1948) is a renowned Telugu novelist.[1] Hailing from Andhra Pradesh state in India, he influenced younger generations with his socially relevant writings. In his writings he addresses many of the important social problems in India like poverty, prejudices, and superstitions, and encourages people to be socially responsible. He successfully bridges the idealistic and the popular styles of literature.
Early life and background
Yandamuri Veerendranath was born in Rajolu, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh to Chakrapani, an Income Tax Department employee, and Narasamaamba
Personal life
Yandamuri married Anugeetha on 10 March 1974. They have a son Praneeth, who received his MBA from the European Institute of Business Administration in France. His son pursued Chartered Accountancy from ICAI.
Popular culture
Many of his novels have been made into motion pictures in Telugu. He also directed two motion pictures in Telugu, the first being "Agnipravesam", starring Yamuna, and the second film with Chiranjeevi by name, "Stuvartpuram Police Station". Both the films were based on his own novels but were not well received by audiences. Hence, Veerendranath reverted to writing. Currently, he is writing a weekly serial in Sakshi Sunday magazine "Funday", by name "Dega Rekkala Chappudu".
Awards
In addition to financial success, he has won many awards for his work. His first film as a dialogue writer won a best regional award from the President of India.
- Sahitya Academy Award for Raghupati Raghava Rajaram in 1982.
- Nandi Award as Best Director for the serial Vennello Adapilla in 1996.
- Nandi Award as Best Socially Relevant Film Director for Vijayam vaipu payanam in 2002 and many more.
