X3: Albion Prelude (usually shortened to X3AP and trademarked as X3: Albion Prelude), is a space trading and combat simulator from German developer Egosoft and is the fifth game in their X series. An add-on to 2008's X3: Terran Conflict, X3: Albion Prelude features new content, functionality and improvements, including additional ships, stations, and sectors; a new plot line; war scenario sectors, and several stock exchanges. X3: Albion Prelude was announced on 8 December 2011 and released on Steam on 15 December 2011.

The 1.1 patch included numerous bug fixes as well as performance tweaks.

The 2.0 patch included multiple new ships, rebalance of previously added ships, bug fixes, and performance tweaks. It also included cut-down versions of some of the main plots available from X3 Terran Conflict.

The 2.1 patch fixed rapid response ships broken in the 2.0 patch. Full language support for Spanish and Czech was added. Plot bugs and issues with custom hotkey assignments were also fixed.

The 2.5 patch included a new Terran sub plot: "Operation Loose Ends". A new Terran HQ was added. Various bugs were fixed, such as war ships self destructing upon being captured and some Rapid Response fleet issues.

The 3.0 patch included support for Linux and gamepad, as well as three new plots: Shady Business, Corporation Troubles and Breaking Grounds. Various fixes were included like M6-class ships no longer exploding after undocking from super shipyards.
