Biography
Wu Jing's mother Pan Wenzheng served in the art troupe for the New Fourth Army during the Second Sino-Japanese War. Due to her influence, Wu applied to art troupes early in life, but despite passing all qualification tests was repeated denied entrance, as her parents had been labeled "Capitalist roaders" during the Cultural Revolution. Instead, she had to work at the Shanghai Farm during the Down to the Countryside Movement. It wasn't until 1975 that she landed a supporting role in the propaganda film Breaking with Old Ideas, and her professional career was not launched until her 1979 acceptance to the Nantong Dance Troupe, when she was nearing 30. Thereafter, Wu became an affiliated actress with the Shanghai Film Studio in the early 1980s and starred in several films.[1]
In 2012, while filming a battle scene for the TV series Arrows on the Bowstring, Wu Jing fractured 4 ribs but continued to film despite great pain. Her professionalism earned her a lot of respect from the TV crew.[2]
In May 2013, Wu Jing was voted one of the 9 vice-chairpeople of the Shanghai Film Association.[3]
