Wind power in Mexico

Mexico is the world's twenty fourth biggest producer of wind power, and its installed capacity is expected to reach 2 GW by the end of 2012.^[1][2] It has a capacity 330 MW under construction.^[2] As of 2008, there were 3 wind farms in the country. The Eurus Wind Farm is the largest wind farm in Latin America.^[3] 18 of 27 wind farms construction projects are based in La Ventosa.^[1] According to the Mexican Wind Energy Association, the country will rank twentieth worldwide in wind capacity by the end of 2012, and will produce four percent of the country's total electricity production.^[1] It also believes that the nation will have 12 GW of wind generation capacity by 2020, and will be able to provide fifteen percent of Mexico's production.^[1] Brian Gardner, Economist Intelligence Unit's energy analyst, said,"With strong wind through the south, consistent sunlight in the north and a stable market, Mexico is well positioned for continued renewables growth".^[1]
