William Hone Junior
William Hone (17 November 1848 in Ireland – 28 September 1888 in Ireland)[1] known as William Hone Junior to differentiate him from his cousin of the same name, was an Irish cricketer who played ten times for the Ireland cricket team between 1875 and 1884.[2]
Playing career
Hone made his debut for Ireland against I Zingari in August 1875, and scored 54 in the Irish second innings. His career continued with three more games against I Zingari over the following three years before touring North America with Ireland in September 1879, playing twice against Philadelphia.[2]
He then spent four years out of the Ireland team, returning for a match against the MCC at Lord's in July 1883, scoring 61 in the first innings, his highest score for Ireland. He played three more times for Ireland, his last game coming against I Zingari in August 1884.[2]
Statistics
In all matches for Ireland, he scored 458 runs at an average of 28.62. He scored four half-centuries.[2]
Family
Hone came from a cricketing family. His two brothers Thomas and Jeffery also played for Ireland, as did his cousins William, Nathaniel and Leland. Leland also played Test cricket for England.[1]
