Why Islam?
Why Islam?, headquartered in Somerset, New Jersey, is a community outreach project of the Islamic Circle of North America (ICNA),[1][2] with the objective of providing information about Islam, and debunking what it describes as popular misconceptions.
History
Why Islam? was established in 2000.
Goals
The project seeks to provide accurate information about Islam,[3] by dispelling popular stereotypes and common misconceptions about Islam and Muslims through various services and outreach activities.[4][5] In an effort to promote peaceful co-existence and remove hatred in society through encouraging understanding, Why Islam? offers opportunities for dialogue and answers to people’s queries about Islam.[4][6]
Services
The organization (Why Islam?) operates a call center to answer questions about Islam. The call center is open year round 24/7 with English and Spanish-speaking associates available.[7] Americans can call 1-877-WHY-ISLAM to get information about Islam.[8]
Why Islam? also provides free literature in English and Spanish, including free copies of the Holy Quran[7] and other materials on subject matters that relate to Islam.[9]
Outreach
Why Islam? has been featured in major media outlets due to their conspicuous billboards with messages such as "Know the Truth about Islam!"[8] and "Find Jesus in the Quran 3:45."[10]
Local community
Why Islam? also works with the Islamic Circle of North America’s relief unit (ICNA Relief) to support its philanthropic activities in the United States, by distributing food to the homeless and offering rebuilding efforts in disaster struck areas[11][12][13][14] and hosting back to school giveaway events.[15][16]
