History
From its beginnings in shipping and shipping finance in 1982,[2] Watson Farley & Williams has developed a broader practice: Energy & Infrastructure, Maritime, Natural Resources, Real Estate and Transport.
Expanding geographically with 14 offices in Europe, Asia and USA, the most recent office openings were in Madrid (November 2009), Munich (June 2008), Milan (May 2008), Hong Kong (March 2012), Frankfurt (January 2013) and Dubai (September 2014).
Watson Farley & Williams Asia Practice, a joint venture between Watson Farley & Williams LLP and Asia Practice LLP, was launched in October 2011. The partners operating within Watson Farley & Williams Asia Practice focus on corporate, finance, litigation and dispute resolution.[3][4]
Watson Farley & Williams opened an office in Hong Kong, in association with Lau, Leong & Co., in March 2012.[5][6]
Watson Farley & Williams opened an office in Frankfurt in January 2013 with a regulatory team focusing on the energy, infrastructure and real estate sectors.[7][8][9]
Watson Farley & Williams opened an office in Dubai, in September 2014.[10]
Watson Farley & Williams announced in October 2015 that it had agreed an association and cooperation arrangement with Hanoi-based boutique firm LVN & Associates.[11]
The firm was shortlised for 'Law Firm of the Year' 2015 by The Lawyer.

Staff from across Watson Farley & Williams voted Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF)/Doctors Without Borders as their Charity of the Year 2015.[12]
Environment
Watson Farley & Williams achieved Carbon Zero status through participating in the Kenyan Energy Efficient Stove Project and the Ugandan Community Borehole Project.[13] Many of the firm's offices and members of staff take part in Earth Hour.[14] Watson Farley & Williams is a member of the Legal Sector Alliance (LSA),[15] an initiative for UK law firms that promotes awareness of climate change and highlights the potential impact of firms' activities.
Communities
Watson Farley & Williams was shortlisted for Best Community Engagement at the MPF Awards for Management Excellence 2015.[16] The firm also sponsors International Lawyers for Africa (ILFA),[17] a pro bono/CSR initiative supported by leading international law firms based in London. In 2013, Watson Farley & Williams' New York office was recognised at the New York City Family Court Volunteer Attorney Programme’s Pro Bono Service Awards.[18] The firm won the Law Society's Excellence in Social Responsibility – Pro Bono Award in 2008.[19]
Charities
Regular payroll commitments to charity by UK employees earned Watson Farley & Williams a Silver level UK Government Payroll Giving Quality Mark Award for 2014.[20] Employees from across the firm also take part in a variety of fundraising activities, ranging from sponsored sporting activities to donating used office equipment.[21]
