Warndon
Warndon is a suburb and civil parish of the City of Worcester in Worcestershire, England.
The parish, which includes the villages of Trotshill and Warndon was part of Droitwich Rural District until 1974 when it was annexed to Worcester under the Local Government Act 1972.[1] It has a population of 10,237.[2]
History
Warndon is situated on an ancient saltway, a track used to transport salt from Droitwich Spa to Worcester and then on to boats on the River Severn. The earliest church record of Warndon dates from 978AD when Bishop Oswald gave land in the Parish to Aethenoth of Smite, when the Parish was held by the Bishops of Worcester (ref C. Monkhouse). The settlement was recorded in the Domesday Book of 1086 when it was spelt "Warmedun".
Warndon Villages
Warndon Villages is a housing development based on "village" themes on the eastern side of Worcester, situated between Warndon and the M5 motorway.
There are four distinct "villages" in the development, The Harleys, The Lyppards, The Berkeleys and The Meadows, each with their own subdivisions.
Warndon Villages is home to Lyppard Grange Primary School,[3] four nurseries,[4] a Tesco supermarket,[5] and an excellent community centre [6] and a range of other facilities.
Warndon Villages borders the Berkeley Business Park which is home to a range of small businesses as well as being a logistics and distribution hub close to Junction 6 of the M5. The Berkeley Business Park is home to Worcester Bosch (a major local employer), Mazak, Plumb Center and SouthCo.
On October 5th 2015, a Polish couple in their 20s were found dead in their house in Warndon Villages in an apparent murder-suicide, which is rarely reported in Worcestershire.
