History

former logo; new version omits W.

Originally station started at WGPA AM & FM, owned and operated by the Bethlehem Globe-Times. Broadcast was simucast during daylight hours with the sister station (WGPA-AM 1100) that is a daylight radio station broadcasting sunrise to sunset. Broadcast continued on FM only until 11 PM. At that time they used a sub-carrier on the FM to broadcast "elevator" type music from reel-to-reel tapes for playing over paging systems inside a retail business. Call sign from when WGPA parted company from original owners was WEZV (according to FCC site this was before 1978 when WZZO call began) Joe McClain from WAEB "Mighty 790" days was one of the DJ's. Their broadcast tower remains to this day off Applebutter Rd. in Lower Saucon Township and can be easily spotted from Rt. 78 just east of the Rt. 412 Bethlehem Exit on the north side of the highway. Original broadcast studios were at 428 Brodhead Ave. (now a Lehigh University building) in Bethlehem, PA just behind what was the Globe-Times Newspaper building (now a video rental store). Before moving to Whitehall Township, Pennsylvania, the WZZO broadcast studios were located in the Westgate Mall in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
