WLOX-DT2 is the CBS-affiliated television station for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. It is a second digital subchannel of ABC affiliate WLOX that is owned by Raycom Media. Over-the-air, the station airs a digital signal on UHF channel 39.2 (or virtual channel 13.2 via PSIP) from a transmitter in southern unincorporated Stone County near McHenry. WLOX-DT2 is also seen on Cable ONE channel 8 and in high definition on digital channel 457. Its parent station has studios on DeBuys Road in Biloxi. Syndicated programming on WLOX-DT2 includes Last Shot with Judge Gunn, Jeopardy!, Entertainment Tonight, and Extra,

History

In March 2012 during the station's anniversary celebration, WLOX began airing a vague promotional YouTube advertisement alluding to having an "eye" on the future with the CBS "eyemark" logo in the background of the spot. The station's front website banner also incorporated a "CBS - coming soon" link to the advertisement suggesting a future digital subchannel with a localized schedule from the network for the Biloxi market offered through WLOX.

The station formally announced the CBS affiliation on March 28, 2012 and the network was added to WLOX-DT2 replacing a 24-hour local weather channel. It was also made public that Cable ONE will carry WLOX's CBS channel in addition to its existing carriage of WWL-TV from New Orleans, Louisiana and Mobile, Alabama's WKRG-TV, both of which have long served as the default CBS affiliates for the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

During severe weather, local weather updates are broadcast on this WLOX subchannel when warnings are issued by the National Weather Service. There is a future possibility that this station will return to airing as a 24-hour local weather channel during some points in its broadcasting schedule. The addition of CBS to WLOX-DT2 is similar to a launch made by sister stations WALB in Albany, Georgia and WDAM-TV in nearby Hattiesburg (both are NBC affiliates that added ABC programming to their digital subchannels).[1][2][3][4][5]

Newscasts

With the launch of CBS on WLOX-DT2, simulcasts of some local newscasts from the main channel are included. More specifically, WLOX's thirty-minute show weekday afternoons at 4, weeknight broadcast at 6, and weekend morning show are not seen on this second subchannel. The weekday morning program, Good Morning Mississippi, is only aired from 5 until 6:30 on this outlet. There is also a new program aired weeknights at 6:30 seen exclusively on this CBS subchannel. WLOX operates its own weather radar at its facility that is known on-air as "Mississippi Power Doppler". In addition to its main studios, the station operates a Jackson County Bureau in Pascagoula.
