WA Screen Academy
The Western Australian Screen Academy (also known as WA Screen Academy) is situated within the School of Communications and Arts at Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. The WA Screen Academy (WASA) offers one of Australia’s most outstanding advanced-level training programs in screen production. Operating in a unique partnership with the renowned Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), WASA benefits from close collaboration with this vibrant creative community of actors, designers and composers. The intensive, one-year course develops students’ practical skills and creative vision across a range of formats including drama, documentary, magazine/lifestyle, multi-cam, music videos and multi-platform content. Graduates accumulate 10-12 significant credits working on high-quality productions using state-of-the-art facilities and equipment, taught and mentored by leading industry professionals. Students study at either a Bachelors or Masters level. The WA Screen Academy has an excellent record of preparing graduates for employment in the industry. Graduates have become writers, production staff and crew on a number of renowned Australian drama series and documentary productions, have secured feature film funding and more. The program is delivered on the Mount Lawley campus of Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia. Perth is a vibrant city of 1.7 million and the centre of a robust screen industry. The WA Screen Academy year runs over 40 teaching weeks from mid-February to the end of November, with a two-week mid-year break. This intensive year of study is equivalent to three university semesters or 1.5 years. Mid-year entry (late July) is available in special circumstances.
"The WA Screen Academy fosters the highest levels of creative inquiry, intellectual rigour and craft excellence in a supportive and exciting environment. It is dedicated to incubating the individuals and teams who will become the movers and shakers of the screen production industry. Many graduates have remarked that their time at the WA Screen Academy was the most challenging and rewarding year of their lives. It is great to hear from them and their employers that their experiences gave them an exceptional foundation to flourish in the professional industry. The atmosphere is electric with the students’ energy, their desire to excel and their commitment to collaborate with others to create work that will be a source of pride."
