Harriman Brothers & Company

Harriman Brothers & Company was an investment bank and brokerage firm founded by brothers W. Averell Harriman and E. Roland Harriman in 1927. In 1931, the firm merged with Brown Bros. & Co. to form Brown Brothers Harriman & Co.

History

In 1922, W. Averell Harriman founded W.A. Harriman & Co., a banking and brokerage business. In 1927, when his brother Roland joined the business, the name of the firm was changed to Harriman Brothers & Company.

In January 1931, the firm merged with Brown Bros. & Co., a Philadelphia-based firm founded in 1818, to create the highly successful Brown Brothers Harriman & Co..
