Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region is the conurbation or metropolitan area covered by the city of Visakhapatnam in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The entire region is spread over the districts of Srikakulam, Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. Under the jurisdiction of Visakhapatnam Urban Development Authority, it covers an area of 5,573 km2 (2,152 sq mi) and has a population of 53.4 lakhs.[1]
Jurisdiction
The areas under the jurisdiction of VMR includes 3 corporations, 3 municipalities, 2 nagar panchayats and 1170 villages.[1] Anakapalle and Bheemunipatnam were merged in Greater Visakhapatnam Municipal Corporation (GVMC).[2]
