Vimalamitra was an 8th-century Indian monk of which little is known. Centuries later he was adopted as a literary character of terma and was attributed various works. One scholar remarks that the historical Vimalamitra "would have been astonished to find himself the focus of such a tradition."[1]
Attributed works
The Vima Nyingthig or "Secret Heart Essence of Vimalamitra" is actually the composition of Zhangton.
