Vikarabad is a town and Headquarters of the Ranga Reddy district of the south indian state of Telangana.

Vikarabad is named after the Paigah noble Nawab Muhammed Fazaluddin Khan KCIE, also known as Sir Viqar-ul-Umrah Bahadur II, Sikander Jung, Iqbal-ud-Daula II and Iqtadar-ul-Mulk II. Nawab Muhammed Fazaluddin Khan served as prime minister of Hyderabad State and Berar Province between 1893 and 1901. The town of Vikarabad was granted permanently to Nawab Viqar-ul-Umrah Bahadur II as an inam (gift) for rendering conspicuous service to the state. Nawab Viqar-ul-Umrah was the younger son of Nawab Rasheeduddin Khan Bahadur.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Vikarabad had a population of 53,185. Males constitute 26,422 of the population and females 26,763. Vikarabad has an average literacy rate of 64%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 72%, and female literacy is 57%. In Vikarabad, 13% of the population is under 6 years of age.Rangareddy Dist Police superintendent office is located at Vikarabad. Presently Vikarabad is renowned as Rural Education centre. Engineering, Medical, Dental, Polytechnic, ITI,and Colleges of Education are also situated and serving the rural people for low cost. Historical Sri Anantha Padmanabha College helped its pupil to emerge as Industrialists, IAS officers,Politicians, Software engineers and Professionals in many fields.
