Vernek is a settlement on the left bank of the Sava River in the Municipality of Litija in central Slovenia. Traditionally the area was part of Lower Styria and is now included with the rest of the municipality in the Central Slovenia statistical region.[2]
History
Archaeological evidence shows that the area was settled in the Roman period, most likely as a river port connected to trade up and down the Sava.[3]
Church
The local church is dedicated to John the Baptist and belongs to the Parish of Hotič. It was first mentioned in written documents dating to 1250, but the current building dates to the mid-18th century.[4]
