The Verde Towers or Verde Residences and Offices are award-winning,[5][6] environmentally sustainable buildings[2] under construction in Dubai Maritime City, Dubai, United Arab Emirates.[7]
Location
The towers are located on the man-made peninsula called the Dubai Maritime City.
Dubai Maritime City is located northwest of the main city centre and creek area business district. The site is connected by a causeway to Dubai proper. Principally located towards the east of Dubai, the project site is situated in close proximity to Jumeirah Beach Road (1 km), Bur Dubai (1.5 km), Shindaga tunnel (Deira) (2.5 km), Sheikh Zayed Road (3 km), and the Dubai International Airport. (10 km)[8]
Design
Designed by the firm of Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the design of the Verde Residences and Offices was described by the developer as:
Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill, two of the most recognized and awarded architects in the world. Their pathbreaking work, which includes landmark tall structures, emphasizes a holistic approach to design that integrates all project disciplines and work symbioticaly with their natural surroundings. Verde, much like their many architectural marvels around the world, continues Adrian's and Gordon's tradition of integrating energy efficient systems and technologies into their designs.[3]
The Verde Towers sustainable design features have been endorsed by the renowned environmental scientist Dr. R.K. Pachauri, co-winner of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize and chairman of the Intergovernmental Panel for Climate Change, who participated in the project launch on March 26, 2008.[1] Commenting on the launch of VERDE Residences and Offices, Dr. R.K. Pachauri said: “It gives me immense pleasure to be a part of the launch of VERDE Residences and Offices. I am happy that ETA Star Properties have shown the industry the direction towards working on projects that maintain equilibrium in the environment we live and operate in. I must appreciate the efforts of Dubai Maritime City in promoting sustainable development. Let the launch of VERDE lead to setting of a benchmark for many similar projects in this region."[2]
Name
Mr. Abid Junaid, Executive Director, ETA Star, said: “The name VERDE has its roots in Spanish, which means green. It is rather apt that we have named our first Green project thus. Besides aiming for a Gold-certified Green building, VERDE will provide the best of amenities for both working and living. We are happy to state that this launch is in line with Dubai Maritime City’s vision of sustainable development and to create a unique environment for the global maritime community."[2]
