The variable pitohui (Pitohui kirhocephalus) is a species of pitohui in the Oriolidae family. It is found in Indonesia and Papua New Guinea on the island of New Guinea and a number of neighbouring islands. This species is sometimes placed in the family Oriolidae. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is also one of the few known poisonous birds.
It is sometimes split into three species: Northern variable pitohui (P. kirhocephalus), southern variable pitohui (P. uropygialis) and Raja Ampat pitohui (P. cerviniventris).
