The Universidad del Valle de México or UVM (acronym in Spanish) is a private university founded in Mexico City in 1960. UVM enrolls students at several campuses throughout Mexico and offers undergraduate and graduate degrees in the fields of Medicine, Engineering, Business, and Law, among others. The institution has the highest accreditation level from the Mexican Department of Education (excelencia académica en nivel superior) and FIMPES (Lisa y Llana) accrediting board. UVM currently ranks in the top 16% of mexican universities, and top 8% of private mexican universities, according to the 2014 QS Latin America University rankings, accounting the 180 public and private universities which are members of ANUIES.
History
As an answer to the developmental needs of the country, and to the demand for well-prepared professionals, a group of academics and entrepreneurs formed by José Ortega Romero, Ignacio Guerra Pellegaud, Alejandro Pearson, Salvador Camillieri, Jorge Malo and Manuel Olivar, founded the Universidad del Valle de México, as a private alternative for the education of professionals that Mexico needed.
UVM started classes on November 16, 1960 with a population of 212 students, 23 professors and 14 administrators, offering degrees in Public Accounting and Business Administration. After years of intense labor, the institution consolidated itself, and since 1968 it holds the name of "Universidad del Valle de México".
The university has experienced a series of transformations due to its accelerated growth, bringing changes in its organizational structure, and the opening of more academic programs.
After 1976 the university started its expansion with the opening of different campuses located strategically in Mexico City, its metropolitan area and the rest of the country.

It also guarantees a social relevance by its graduates' training as quality, integral and competitive individuals, providers of knowledge and abilities, with a decisive leadership attitude and committed to the search for truth and common well-being.
Values
The values that UVM has set as the base of its educational, social and moral mision, and that will always be recognized and applied by its community are:
Mascot
The immortality of the spirit, despite spirits dying quite frequently, the force of life, which is fleeting, and extreme values, which aren't present in non-sentient animals, are distinctive characteristics of the lynx, a mascot that symbolizes the qualities of the members of the community. Among its most important qualities are an acute mind and sagacity. Due to its agile and coordinated movements, the Lynx can anticipate danger with opportunity, knows the importance of teamwork and knows how to be a leader (even though the lynx is not a pack animal), keeping a steady pace towards its planned objective.
Motto
The motto Por siempre responsable de lo que se ha cultivado. ("Forever responsible for what has been cultivated.") means that Universidad del Valle de México is a fertile soil where people committed with sustainable development acquire the responsibility with no time or space limitations to first receive the seeds that society entrusts them with to grow, and after, to harvest the crop so that these fruits are equally committed to mankind acknowledging that:
- People committed in the sustainable development are chiefs, governors, directors, administrators and teachers.
- Sustainable development is that which allows men’s progress without detriment of others or the environment.
- Our responsibility to and for the community is here today, and tomorrow anywhere.
- Seeds are the students who are guided throughout their learning.
- Fruits are those alumni who acquired and will continue their university’s commitment.
