University of Dayton Research Institute is the professional research arm of the University of Dayton in Dayton, Ohio. In fiscal year 2015, UD was ranked third among all colleges in the nation for sponsored materials research , according to the statistics provided by the National Science Foundation. In Ohio, UD is ranked first among nonprofit institutions for research sponsored by the Department of Defense.[1]

The University of Dayton Research Institute (UDRI) employs nearly 450 full-time researchers.[2] In 2015, UDRI performed nearly $99 million in sponsored research.[3] UDRI is nationally recognized for its many research projects.[4] Established as the research arm of the University of Dayton in 1956, UDRI broke the $1 billion mark in sponsored research at the end of 2003. In fiscal year 2015, sponsored research at UDRI topped $98 million.
