Westfield UTC, formerly University Towne Centre (UTC), is an open-air shopping mall in the University City community of San Diego, California. It lies just east of La Jolla, near the University of California, San Diego campus.
In 2008 a one-billion dollar revitalization plan for the shopping center was approved by the San Diego City Council. However, due to the recession, the revitalization project was put on hold for several years. In 2011, the first phase of the revitalization commenced: the mall's food court was transformed into an indoor/outdoor Dining Terrace while the former Robinsons-May building was divided into three new anchors: a large-scale Forever 21 clothing store, a relocated 24 Hour Fitness sports club, and a 14-screen ArcLight Cinema and adding Tiffany & Co., J.Crew, and Tesla Motors.[2] In 2014, it was announced that a new two-level, 145,000 square foot Nordstrom store would anchor the expansion, to open in 2017.
