Uchūsen: Cosmo Carrier (宇宙船コスモキャリア) is an action video game released exclusively in Japan for the Family Computer.

Story

When the moon departed from its usual orbit sometime in the year 1999, Nostradamus' prediction finally become true. A huge squadron of spaceships piloted by hostile alien forces came out of an artificial planet constructed near Pluto. A ragtag defense force has been assembled by the leaders of humanity in the hopes of being able to fend of the invasion.[3]

Only a photon missile, invented by the extraterrestrials themselves, can destroy this fake planet and bring a halt to this invasion. The earth only has 100 days left to live unless the commander of the Cosmo Carrier can succeed in his duties.[3]

Gameplay

Fighting the enemy inside their carrier.

Players must battle aliens in the year 1999 in order to avoid the human race from going extinct. An alien invasion fleet is headed towards Earth to fight what may become the human's final conflict ever.[2] While having a menu screen like in Final Fantasy, the action scenes in this game have more in common with combat flight simulation games like Ultimate Air Combat and Top Gun.[4]

Interacting with enemy ships, planets and moons will enable the player's ship to either warp to that planet or explore its surface for hostile lifeforms. Ships and Mechs can be fixed using the computer; a simple target system allows players to lock in on anywhere for the purpose of interaction. Even basic combat uses this routine to allow the targets of any enemies within range.[5] Diplomacy is possible by communicating with other ships and inhabited planets. Two viewpoints are used in this game: a basic bird's-eye viewpoint along with a first-person perspective. Actual planets from our Solar System are used like Earth, Jupiter and Mars.[2] Players must collect six different missile parts in order to destroy the final boss.[6]

The player can employ three different kinds of mech; with the Blizzard model being able to tolerate temperatures up to −270 °C (−454.00 °F).[7]
