TwinStrata
TwinStrata is an enterprise cloud storage company that was purchased in 2014 by EMC Corporation.[1] The company was founded in 2007 by Nicos Vekiarides and John Bates and headquartered in Natick, Massachusetts. TwinStrata's product, CloudArray was introduced in May 2010 as a virtual appliance followed by CloudArray hardware appliances in September 2010.
CloudArray is referred to as a cloud storage gateway.[2] CloudArray utilizes cloud storage from one or many public or private cloud providers to extend existing on-premises storage infrastructures to the cloud. CloudArray presents an iSCSI interface and provides local performance, thin provisioning, data reduction, bandwidth optimization, at-rest encryption and in-cloud snapshots. Primary use cases for CloudArray include storage capacity expansion, data protection and disaster recovery. Since CloudArray operates both as a software and hardware solution, it can run on-premises and/or in the cloud, enabling in-cloud compute environments as disaster recovery or secondary expansion sites for compute and storage resources. Unique Compute-Anywhere capability allows applications to access managed data volumes access on-premises, off-premises and in the cloud.
TwinStrata was a 2011 Red Herring Top 100 North America award winner[3] and 2011 Red Herring Global 100 winner.[4] TwinStrata was listed as one of CRN's emerging vendors in 2011.[5]
