Early life

Tuhin was born and brought up in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand. He completed his schooling at Loyola School, and obtained a BCom (H) from the Hindu College, University of Delhi and post-graduate diploma in advertising and communications management from the National Institute of Advertising, New Delhi.

Career

Starting in 2006, Tuhin has written five novels. They include of Love And Politics, The Edge of Desire, The Edge of Power, 22 Yards and That Thing Called Love. He is credited for inventing the genre of political thrillers in contemporary Indian writing. A review of his book, Of Love And Politics in The Hindu, published in December 2010, wrote, "In today's age, it is commendable to have a writer like Sinha who can so adeptly weave Shakespearean phrases with Shashi Tharoor-esque aplomb in his work" – The Hindu.

Tuhin's first novel, That Thing Called Love, was released on 25 September 2006. It is set against the backdrop of Mumbai monsoons and explores relationships in the contemporary urban set up of the city, in the phase of changing moralities. The book has sold over 100,000 (100,000) copies.

The Captain was his second novel and is a chronicle of a fictitious Indian cricket team captain's journey through the fickleness of life and the cricket world. The novel was originally published as 22 Yards in August 2008 by Westland. Later Rupa Publishers re-published it in 2011 with a new name.

Both That Thing Called Love and The Captain have been brought out in the Hindi and Bengali languages as well. Regional language versions were published by Diamond Books, Delhi. The Marathi version of That Thing Called Love is being published by Mehta Publishing House, Pune.

Tuhin's third English novel, Of Love and Politics, published by Hachette India, was released on 2 July 2010 at IHC, New Delhi, by renowned politician Ravi Shankar Prasad and TV journalist Bhupendra Chaubey. The Delhi event was followed by high-profile events in Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore and Pune. The book is known for its peculiar interplay between personal relationships and political alliances which are present throughout the book.

Tuhin's fourth novel, The Edge of Desire was published by Hachette India in May 2012. Loosely inspired by the Mahabharat, the book narrates the fight back of a rape victim who goes on to become a top political leader of the country. The lead characters of the book, Shruti Ranjan and Sharad Malviya became immensely popular and the book made it to various best-sellers' lists in the first few months after its release. The book's massive success prompted Tuhin to attempt its sequel.

Tuhin's latest novel, The Edge of Power, a sequel to his previous bestseller, The Edge of Desire was released on 14 December 2013 at the prestigious Taj Literature Festival, Agra. The book has earned rave reviews from readers across the country.

Other than his novels, Tuhin has co-authored the book India Aspires with former BJP president Nitin Gadkari. The book brings forth some very innovative development ideas and espouses increased production of bio-fuel and solar energy as means to improve the country's rural economy.

Apart from writing novels, Tuhin has contributed guest columns to India's leading print media publications. They include The Times of India, DNA and Grazia.

Tuhin has also scripted several popular TV shows. He has co-written one of the most popular soaps on Star Plus, Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai between November 2011 and April 2012. Some of the other serials on which he has worked include Pyar Ki Kashti Mein (Star One, 2004-5), Koi Dil Mein hai (Sony, 2004-5), Dekho Magar Pyar se (Star, 2005) and Waqt Batayega Kaun Apna Kaun Paraya (Sony, 2008) and Afsar Bitiya (Zee, 2012). A TV film, Phir Se, based on a story written by Tuhin and premiered on Sahara One, won the RAPA Award for the best telefilm in 2005.

In addition to these, Tuhin has acted in a couple of series in the early stages of his career. He has also played the part of the protagonist, Mayank in the promo and music video shot around his first novel, That Thing Called Love. This promo was directed by S. Manasvi and featured famous TV actor, Akshay Anand.

Personal style

Tuhin is among the most prolific young Indian writers today. While That Thing Called Love was a story about the dark side of relationships, set in a Mumbai monsoon, 22 Yards can aptly be called a "cricket thriller", written in first person by a fictitious Indian captain.

With Of Love and Politics, Tuhin has attempted an unusual story of relationships involving three Indian politicians, subscribing to different ideologies.

The best part of the book I felt was the second part and the end was too good – Ammu Nair

Tuhin, you have definitely raised the bar for the fellow authors :-) Keep Up the Great work! – Aruna Shankar

It's powerful and it's engrossing – Samarpita

The Edge of Desire

Shruti Ranjan is an apt representation of today's Indian woman, living on the cusp of modernity and tradition and dealing with the multitude of problems which come with this...In many ways, Shruti represents the formidable modern day Draupadi – The Asian Age

The Edge of Desire is worth a read to understand the quirks of fate, the machinations of politics and what a combustible combination the two can make. – The Hindu

The book's immensely pacy – mirroring exactly the frenetic developments in Indian politics where a split second can transform people's lives. Sinha's made good use of real-life events as markers in Shruti's political and personal life. The Mahabharata metaphor is thought-provoking and Sinha's also done a fair job of showing the different, often clashing sides of his characters' personalities – ibnlive.com

The book has an interesting plot, considering the immensely political times we live in…Sinha covers a wide swathe, keeping his narrative interesting while portraying Shruti's 'it's complicated' status, be it her rocky personal or professional life – rediff.com

Of Love And Politics

Indeed, in today's age of monosyllabic phrases and grammatically horrifying SMS-lingo, it is commendable to have a writer like Sinha who can so adeptly weave Shakespearean phrases like 'phlegmatic propensities' and 'puerile denials' with Shashi Tharoor-esque aplomb in his work – The Hindu

The book throws up well-researched and lesser-known trivia about Indian political history that is very illuminating. Tuhin represents a breed of young Indian authors who are conscious of their roots and who keep an eye on their political surroundings. – Deccan Herald

One of the most critical areas which the books delves into and which I liked very much is the connect between one's personal beliefs and his/her political ideology..the book celebrates democracy – Ravi Shankar Prasad, Senior Politician

...very interesting characters and some brilliant passages – Rimi Chatterjee, author

The best part about the book is that it provides a distinct perspective on almost every important political event of the last century – Piyush Jha, filmmaker

Politics makes strange bed-fellows and this book aptly proves it – Abhijit Bhaduri, author

Thought provoking, easy flowing yet deep. Not only does it raise questions about the flaws in our multi-party democracy but also makes an attempt at offering solutions – Gul Panag, actress

The Captain (formerly 22 Yards)

"The book is the first of its kind- it embarks on a course that is based on some real life incidents in Indian cricket." – The Hindu

"All the passion and pain of cricket, all the glory and gloom; the need to be a loner and share a field with twenty-one other loners; the swing and spin of success, greed and lust..The Captain is alive with that feeling, that comprehension." – Tom Alter, actor and cricket expert

Of Management and Politics talk series

With a view to educate the youth and understand their viewpoint on contemporary national and social issues, Tuhin has initiated a talk series called Of Management and Politics. The first two sessions took place at XLRI, Jamsedpur and the Symbiosis Institute of Management and Human Resource Management, Hinjewadi, Pune. The driving objective of the initiative is to bring a significant change in the common perceptions towards politics and to encourage the youth to participate more in the political system of India. In the next few years, Tuhin intends to take this series to every part of the country.

"Love Thy Leader" series

In March–April 2010, Tuhin wrote a controversial four-part series of columns called "Love Thy Leader" for Times Life of The Times of India. Each column dwelt upon a romance, involving a key political figure. The column disputed existing notions and sought to provide a differential perspective about facts that have often remained clouded in history. While the first column delved into the power play in the Sarkozy-Bruni romance, the second questioned the veracity of the Akbar-Jodha hyphenation, the third probed the possible political implications of the Nehru-Edwina romance, while the last one dwelt upon the bond between Hitler and Eva Braun, which still remains shrouded in mystery.

Personal life

Tuhin lives in Mumbai with his wife Ramyani and two-year-old son, Neev Tanish.
