Transport in Guntur
There are various modes of transportation available in Guntur City and its region. It includes auto rickshaws, bicycles to mass transit systems - such as buses and trains.
Roadways
The traffic uses inner and outer ring roads. The expansion of the outer ring road is currently in planning which connects nearby suburban/rural areas. There are couple of highways that passes through the city connecting Guntur to major cities in India.
The Outer Ring Road is a 46-kilometre (29 mi), Ten-lane (6+4) ring road expressway encircling the cities of Guntur and Vijaywada in Andhra Pradesh, India.[1][2][3] The work is scheduled to be completed by 2015.[4]
- Two and three wheelers
Two wheeler vehicles such as Motor Cycles, Scooters, Mopeds are heavily used in the city for local travel. The eco-friendly vehicles such as Bicycles and manual rickshaws are also used throughout the region for short distances.
Auto rickshaws have dominated the streets in the city as compared to the city buses and other modes of transportation.
Now APSRTC introduces city services to marjor parts of the city with new semi-low floor buses
Bus services
The bus transport is a major way of transportation in Guntur City, its suburban and rural regions. The common city buses for the general public are operated by both private and government. Guntur is the regional headquarters of the state run APSRTC. It runs city buses, suburban (includes palle velugu for rural areas) and long distance services in the state as well as inter state services. The main bus terminus is located in the north-eastern part of the city.
Train transit
Trains are a common mode of transportation in Guntur City and its surroundings. There are many local railway stations to serve the needs of suburban and rural regions. Guntur junction is the main railway station and a divisional headquarter in the (Guntur division) of South Central Railway zone[5] in the south central region.[6] Government is planning to run Metrorail between Guntur City-Vijayawada-Tenali
NewGuntur railway station is another railway station which is connected to the city and will ease to travel passengers towards cheenai, tirupati and vishakapatnam
