Torrents of Spring is a 1989 film directed by Jerzy Skolimowski and starring Timothy Hutton and Nastassja Kinski. It is based on the novel of the same title. Set in 1840, it is about a young Russian aristocrat, Dimitri Sanin, torn between the love of a beautiful German pastry shop girl, Gemma Rosselli, and a Russian seductress, Princess Maria Nikolaevna. The film competed for the Golden Palm Award at the 1989 Cannes Film Festival.[1]
