The Times & Citizen is a free local newspaper published on Thursdays in Bedford, Bedfordshire, England. The newspaper is distributed all over the Borough of Bedford and much of Mid Bedfordshire. Current circulation is around 80,000.
History
First published in 1845, the Bedfordshire Times was the first regular paper published for the Bedfordshire area, and had an unbroken weekly production record, apart from one week in 1959 due to a printing industry strike. In 1995, the Times merged with another local paper, the Bedford Citizen. The new Times & Citizen was created. Two years later in 1997 The paper was bought by Johnston Press.[1]
The paper today
The Times & Citizen is the market leader in north and mid Bedfordshire along with its paid-for sister title The Biggleswade Chronicle. It has more news pages than its local rival the Bedfordshire on Sunday, another free local paper, and averages more than 100 pages in total every week.
The Times & Citizen has a range of news, with five pages of sports at the back of the paper, monthly columns from each of the area's three MPs, and a number of other features including a crossword, a monthly schools spotlight called School Report, and a weekly Times Past section.
The paper can also be read online at its website which also has special web features and videos uploaded at least once a fortnight.
