Tilted Kilt Pub and Eatery is a Celtic themed sports bar and restaurant chain in the United States and Canada that employs scantily-clad female servers in short kilts (known as a "breastaurant").[2] Tilted Kilt is uniquely different than other sports bars because of its theme that combines Celtic décor, humorous and slightly bawdy limericks and sexy cast members with food, drinks and a fun, entertaining atmosphere.[3] The entire staff dresses in thematic attire; the men wear kilts and the women wear "mini-kilts" and plaid bras.[4] The bar's tagline is, "A cold beer never looked so good."[5]
History
The first Tilted Kilt Pub & Eatery was opened in the Las Vegas Rio Hotel and Casino in 2003 by restaurateur Mark DiMartino and business partners and co-founders Shannon Reilly and John Reynaud.[6] The concept was a "contemporary, Celtic theme sports bar, staffed with beautiful servers."[6] It took one hour after the concept meeting for Harrah's to contact DiMartino and inquire about immediate development.[7] As of August 2015, Tilted Kilt has 107 locations. Additional locations are more than likely in development based on February 2014 reports that Tilted Kilt had 93 locations and 27 in development.[8]
Titled Kilt sponsored Todd Bodine's Germain Racing truck on March 7, 2009, for the Camping World Truck Series at the American Commercial Lines 200 race.[9] [10]
Tilted Kilt sponsored Korbin Forrister's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series on October 1, 2015.[11]
Atmosphere
Tilted Kilt describes itself as "a modern American, Scottish and Irish sports pub".[7] The menu is a mix of traditional and contemporary pub food, serving items such as fish and chips, "Olde Dublin Irish Stew", and "TK Irish Nachos".[12] Each bar features at least 24 beers on tap, including flagship beverages such as Guinness and Harp Lager.[2] The establishments are filled with televisions for sporting events and games such as billiards, shuffleboard, and darts are available for the patrons.[13] The Kilt Girls wear bras, baring cleavage and midriffs.
Undercover Boss
Tilted Kilt and its owner, Ron Lynch, were featured on the November 9, 2012, episode of Undercover Boss on CBS.[8][14]
Updated Costume
In April of 2015, Tilted Kilt made a major update to their iconic tartan plaid costume that their Kilt Girls are known for. The new design, while keeping with the core of the Kilt Girl look and ramping up the sexiness, was made with Kilt Girl comfort and movement in mind.[15]
Press Releases
In 2015, Tilted Kilt was named one of America's Top 10 Fastest Growing Restaurants on CNBC.[16]
In May of 2015, Tilted Kilt and Anheuser-Busch kicked off their 5th annual military fundraiser. [17] In 2014, Tilted Kilt collectively raised $115,000. Their goal for 2015 was $150,000.[18]
Controversies
In February 2012, a group of 19 former employees at a Chicago restaurant sued for sexual harassment after they claimed their manager forced them to work in a "sexually hostile, offensive, humiliating and degrading work environment." They named as defendants both the franchise they worked for and the franchisor parent, Tilted Kilt Franchise Operating LLC. The franchisor disavowed responsibility for the behavior of individual restaurants, claiming they are independently owned and operated. The franchisor also said it "does not tolerate sexual or other types of harassment either within its own organization or within its franchisees' organizations."[19]
A Palm Desert, California, location garnered attention when a 20-year-old woman alleged she was denied employment as an "entertainer/server" because she could not fit into the skirt that came as part of her uniform. There is no federal law guaranteeing equal employment based on body size.[20]
