Tiffany Lynn Alvord (born December 11, 1992) is an American singer and songwriter.[1] She has been cited as one of YouTube's first "home-grown celebrities".[2] She has a large social presence on YouTube with over 500 million video views and over 2.7 million subscribers,[3] making her channel among the top 50 most subscribed music channels on YouTube.[4] Alvord also has a strong following on social media sites including more than 2.5 million Facebook fans and over 350 thousand Twitter followers.[5][6] In December 2012, Alvord performed in Times Square on the Nivea stage with Carly Rae Jepsen, Train, PSY and Taylor Swift as part of the 2012 New Year's Eve celebration.[4]
Biography
Alvord was born December 11, 1992, in California, the daughter of Cherie Alvord, who works as her manager.[7] She is the second youngest of seven siblings, having six brothers.[8] When in elementary school, Alvord learned to play the piano[2] and wrote her first songs by age ten.[8] At 14, Alvord learned to play the guitar, her second instrument.[2] The following year, in April 2008, at 15, she published her first song on YouTube.[9] Alvord is a member of the LDS Church.[10]
Alvord trained as a gymnast for nine years. Four of which, she competed until a sport-ending injury during competition.[1] She finished high school in 2010, taking 3 years. By graduation, her YouTube channel and music were taking off. Alvord postponed college to focus on her music.[2]
Musical career
Alvord's career includes several live music performances, mainly in the United States, but also in Canada,[11] England,[12] China,[13] Singapore,[14] Thailand,[15] Indonesia[16] and Malaysia,[17] performing both original songs and cover songs she has performed on YouTube. She has also participated in various tours, opening for Boyce Avenue on their U.S. tour during February and March 2011,[18][19] and headlined with Alex Goot on a U.S. tour between August and September of the same year.[20][21]
On June 23, 2011, Alvord's first album I've Got It Covered launched in the United States, featuring ten of her most prominent cover songs.[22] On December 20, 2011, she released her second studio album My Dream with Tate Music Group, her first album of original songs.[23]
In June 2012, Alvord took first place in an ArtistSignal competition, winning a $25,000 grand prize.[24][25][26] Then on June 29, 2012, she released her third album, I've Got It Covered Vol. 2, which, like her first album, has 10 cover songs made popular on her YouTube channel.[27] On September 18, 2012, Alvord released her fourth album on iTunes, entitled My Heart Is.[9] In December 2012, Alvord performed in Times Square on the Nivea stage with Carly Rae Jepsen, Train, PSY and Taylor Swift as part of the 2012 New Year's Eve celebration.[4]
Alvord headlined a tour in four different countries in Southeast Asia during March 2013,[28][29] and co-headlined a West Coast tour of the U.S. in April 2013 with fellow YouTube star Jason Chen.[28] In July 2013, Alvord performed live in Europe for the first time, headlining sold-out shows in London, including the historic London Hippodrome.[12] During the trip, Alvord was featured on a live interview with Simon Lederman on 94.9 BBC Radio, London.[30]
On August 13, 2013, she released her fifth album, I’ve Got It Covered Vol. 3,[31] followed by her Legacy album, on August 12, 2014.[32] Currently, Alvord is working on various international tours while continuing to regularly post new music content for her subscribers on YouTube.
