"The Metal" is a song by Tenacious D from their 2006 album The Pick of Destiny. The album was a soundtrack for the film. The song is played during the end credits of the film and is the final track on the album.
Tenacious D plays "The Metal" regularly at concerts. Starting from the Tenacious D 2006-2007 Tour, the song was accompanied by a dancing Jason Reed representing the metal in a huge costume, their Blizzcon 2010 appearance is the last known time that this idea was used at a show until it returned when the band played at Gröna Lund in Stockholm, Sweden at Sunday 11 August 2013. Currently the song is just played in reference to the metal genre and not the figure.
The song appeared in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as a 6th tier song out of 8. It also appeared as a DLC for the video game, Rock Band. The song was part of the song playlist in the game, Brütal Legend.
On December 2, 2006, Tenacious D performed both "Kickapoo" and "The Metal" as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.[1] For that performance of "The Metal," the titular part was again played by Jason Reed, but with the addition of members of the then-current SNL cast playing the other genres of music that were "smitten" by the Metal.
