The American rock band The Killers has released four studio albums, two compilation albums, and 18 singles. Part of the post-punk revival movement, The Killers are influenced by music styles of the 1980s and 1990s. The group's debut album, Hot Fuss (2004), brought the band mainstream success, spawning four UK top 20 singles, including "Mr. Brightside", and has since been certified 3× Platinum by the RIAA and 7× Platinum by the BPI, selling some 7 million copies worldwide.[1][2]
After extensive touring for Hot Fuss, The Killers took little time out before beginning work on their second album, enlisting the help of producers Flood and Alan Moulder for the record.[3] The Killers' second album, Sam's Town, was released in 2006, being met initially by mixed reviews but nonetheless proving a commercial success, debuting at number two on the Billboard 200 with opening sales of 315,000 units, and going on to be certified Platinum by the RIAA.[4] In the UK, the album debuted atop the chart and went on to be certified 5× Platinum by the BPI.[2] The extensive supporting Sam's Town Tour saw the band graduate to sold-out arena dates worldwide and obtain a headline slot at Glastonbury Festival. The compilation album Sawdust containing B-sides, rarities, and new material, was released in November 2007.
The band's third studio album, Day & Age, produced by Stuart Price, was released in November 2008 and spawned the hugely successful hit single "Human", described by Brandon Flowers as "our biggest song, pound for pound".[5] Day & Age proved a commercial success in Europe, was certified Gold by the RIAA and the Day & Age World Tour proved the band's most extensive yet.[1] Their fourth album, Battle Born, was released in September 2012, becoming the band's fourth consecutive album to reach number one in both the UK and Ireland.[6] The album was supported by the extensive Battle Born World Tour, which has seen the band play their largest headline show to date, playing Wembley Stadium in London on June 22, 2013.[7]
In November 2013, in celebration of their first decade together, the band released their first greatest hits-style compilation, entitled Direct Hits, a contractual requirement with their record label.[8] The compilation features two new tracks; including "Shot at the Night", produced by Anthony Gonzalez of M83. The band have sold an estimated 22 million albums worldwide.[7][9]
