The Italian Job is a video game based on the original 1969 The Italian Job film. It was first released for PAL-based PlayStation markets in 2001, and in North America for PlayStation and Microsoft Windows in 2002. The game features a story mode based on the movie and a multiplayer mode where the player drives through several different circuits in London and Turin. The game features representations of London and Turin that the player can drive around freely within a sandbox mode, in a range of cars including the famous Mini. The North American PlayStation version was one of a number of budget titles released near the end of that console's lifespan that debuted at only $9.99 MSRP.
Game Modes
Italian Job Mode
Loosely following the plot of the film, the player guides Charlie Croker and his gang as they pull together all of the people and parts they need to pull off the "Italian Job".
Party Play Mode
1-8 players race through a series of checkpoints, competing for best time. Players take turns by passing the controller from person to person.
Challenge Mode
This mode is unlocked when all levels and race types in London are completed. It includes Brake Tests, Jump Tests and others with increasing difficulty as the player completes a race/mission.
Checkpoint Mode
A series of checkpoint-based racers in both London and Turin. Based on how well the player performs in a checkpoint race, consequent levels with increasing difficulty are unlocked.
