Robert C. "Rob" Evans (born 1953) is an American Christian children's songwriter and performer best known for his performances as The Donut Man. He is known for his many sing-along audio and video tapes produced with Integrity Music. His DVDs have received six gold and two platinum sales awards from the RIAA. He is called the Donut Man in reference to one of his first songs that included the line "Life without Jesus is like a donut; there's a hole in the middle of your heart".[1]

Early life

Rob Evans was born in 1953 in Paoli, Pennsylvania to Presbyterian parents. At age 6 his parents divorced. He met his future wife, at age 19 where he was born-again into a Pentecostal Bible church. Rob attended Rutgers College, but did not graduate, instead becoming a carpenter.[2]

The Donut Man

The "Donut Repair Club" started in 1981 with Evans as "The Donut Man".[3] Evans took the concept of a donut's hole to imply that something was missing, of which Jesus could fill and repair. Over the following years, Evans and his Donut Repair club would sell more than 6 million CDs and DVDs, and held appearances at more than 2,500 church concerts[4] Rob also sings in churches as a children's Bible story songsmith and presents concerts to children and families. His first-person songs put the audience into the shoes of the biblical characters he sings about. The Donut Man's sidekick is Duncan the Donut (a foam donut puppet built by professional puppet company Axtell Expressions, whose creator Steve Axtell puppeteers and voices Duncan). Evans' current incarnation of The Donut Man runs on the EWTN network.

Evangelical; Catholic

Evans, his wife, and daughter were confirmed into the Roman Catholic Church in Easter of 2006.[5][6] Since then, Evans has completed a Roman Catechetical Diploma from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary in Philadelphia. As a child of divorce, he equates that with the Reformation 'divorce' of Protestants from Catholics. He believes that the eternal unity found in the Trinity will someday re-unite the Body of Christ. Meanwhile, he is dedicated to proclaiming the Gospel with Scripture-based songs that minister to families with young children. To Sacramental groups he includes the Sacraments, to Scriptural groups he includes the Scriptures; or both. This is his best effort to respond to Christ's prayer, 'Father make them one'.

Personal life

Evans is married to Shelley Tait with 6 kids, including an adopted girl, Tonya, from Russia. He currently lives in Merion, Pennsylvania.
