The Corrs are an Irish folk rock/pop band consisting of siblings Andrea (lead vocals and tin whistle), Sharon (violin), Caroline (drums and bodhrán) and Jim Corr (guitar and piano). Formed in their hometown of Dundalk, Ireland, in 1990, the band's discography includes six studio albums, three live albums and three compilation albums, as well as six video albums and twenty-five singles. This list does not include material recorded by The Corrs as solo artists.
Their debut album, Forgiven, Not Forgotten, was produced by David Foster and released in 1995 by Atlantic Records in conjunction with 143 Records. Preceded by debut single "Runaway", the album was an immediate success in both their home territory and Australia, eventually being certified 13-times platinum[1] and 9-times platinum[2] in those regions, respectively. Commercial success elsewhere was initially modest, however.
Their 1997 follow-up, Talk On Corners, was primarily produced by Glen Ballard and once again found The Corrs receiving little attention outside Ireland and Australia. Meanwhile, the group had contributed a cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams" to Legacy: A Tribute to Fleetwood Mac's Rumours. On 17 March 1998, they performed the song at London's Royal Albert Hall alongside Fleetwood Mac drummer Mick Fleetwood as part of the BBC's televised coverage of St. Patrick's Day. This event did much to raise the band's profile. Following this, Talk On Corners was re-released to include their cover of "Dreams", along with new single versions of "What Can I Do?", "So Young" and "Runaway". Certified 9-times platinum in the UK for sales of almost 3 million copies, the album was the highest-selling release of 1998 and ninth highest-selling of 1999.[3] It remains the nineteenth best-selling album of all time in British chart history.[4] The album was certified 20× platinum in Ireland for shipments of over 300,000 units[1] and remains the second-highest-selling album of all time in the region, after David Gray's White Ladder.
Their first live album, The Corrs Unplugged, was released in 1999 and was followed ten months later by In Blue. Dedicated to the memory of their mother Jean, who died during production of the album,[5] it went straight to number one in Ireland with the third highest opening week sales in the history of the chart.[6] Lead single "Breathless" gave them their first and only UK number one,[7] while the album also attained platinum status in the United States for shipments of over one million units.[8] The set has reportedly sold over 6.5 million copies worldwide.
2004 saw the release of Borrowed Heaven. Dedicated to their parents,[9] the album was a return to their Celtic roots after the more pop-oriented In Blue. It peaked at number one in Ireland and achieved platinum status both there and in Australia,[10] with gold status also being attained in France,[11] Germany[12] and New Zealand,[13] among others. Home, which featured traditional Irish music taken from their late mother's songbook,[14] was released the following year, serving as a commemoration to their 15-year career.[15]
2006's Dreams: The Ultimate Corrs Collection was released following the announcement that the band would go on indefinite hiatus for the foreseeable future, citing personal reasons. In 2006, both Sharon and Caroline gave birth to children, and Jim became a father for the first time. Since 2005, Andrea has had starring roles in three feature films, acted in the play Dancing at Lughnasa and has released two solo albums, Ten Feet High in 2007 and Lifelines in 2011. Sharon released her first solo album, Dream of You in 2010, which was followed in 2013 by The Same Sun.
The Corrs have sold more than 40 million albums worldwide.[16]
