The Anniversary is a 2009 romantic comedy written and directed by Canadian film-maker and film journalist John Campea. The film explores the stresses, stereotypes, and stigmas associated with thirty-something dating and relationships.
Plot synopsis
Cid (Jason Contini) is dumped by his girlfriend on the eve of their 15th anniversary due to Cid's failure to propose marriage. One year after the break-up, Cid is still reeling from the shock and awe of being single and in his 30's. In his struggle to find his identity outside of a relationship, Cid must struggle to balance the influences of Myron (Ryan Patrick McGuffy) and Shannon (Ashley Oxford), a happily married couple, and Manolis (Manolis Zontanos), a devout anti-monogamist, all while trying to find his own place in the insanity of the male/female relationship game.
Production
The Anniversary is John Campea's first feature film, following closely on the heels of his documentary, Prince of Peace, God of War, which explored the relationship between Christianity and the theology of war.
