Production and filming
Development
Filming of The Amazing Race 28 began on November 15, 2015, with host Phil Keoghan live-streaming the arrival at the first clue location, at the Monumento a la Revolución in Mexico City, via social media. Unlike previous seasons, the race began in their teams' hometowns rather than to a traditional starting line, and they had been given their first destination city.[1][3]
This season will span 18 cities and 10 countries over 27,000 miles (43,000 km).[4] Racers were reported racing around Cartagena, Colombia on November 19.[5] Filming of the show was also reported seen around Tbilisi, Georgia spotted in Narikala fortress, Rustaveli Theater and The Bridge of Peace; and Jvari monastery in Mtskheta in November 27. This season marks the first time that the American Race will visit Armenia, Colombia and Georgia.[4][6][7]

Instead of the normal start line, teams were notified at their homes by a video message from Phil Keoghan to start the race and travel by plane to Mexico City and meet him at the Monumento a la Revolución to get their first clue for the race to their first detour.[lower-alpha 1] In Mariachi Madness, teams had to find one of 350 Mariachi performers at Plaza Garibaldi that was faking their performance, taking the performer to a judge to get their next clue. In Great Bulls of Fire, teams had to assemble a torito, a papier-mâché bull, as part of a firecracker display to a judge's satisfaction, and then light off the display to receive their clue.
Teams arrived at Cuevas de Parque Tematico Tialocan in Teotihuacan to claim one of three departure times for the next day. On departure, teams received a Roadblock, requiring one team member to sift through an excavation site within the nearby caves to find thirteen pieces to construct an Aztec mask. Once the mask was properly assembled, the team member received their next clue to the pit stop at Museo Soumaya.
